Tournee Georgisch mannenkoor dankzij grotconcert Vocaal ensemble Dzmano bezoekt Nederland 30 september, 2019 Een optreden van de mannen van Dzmano in het grottencomplex van Vardzia kwam dankzij het tv-programma Wie is de Mol in talrijke Nederlandse huiskamers terecht, waar hun exotisch klinkende en diep resonerende meerstemmigheid de nodige indruk maakte. De eeuwenoude Georgische volkspolyfonie staat niet voor niets op de werelderfgoedlijst van Unesco. Binnenkort komt het koor naar Nederland voor een uitgebreide tournee.

Satanique Samba Trio exclusief in de X Eenmalig Nederlands optreden tijdens Europese tournee 15 september, 2019 ‘Mais bad’ is de titel van het nieuwe album (10” vinyl) van Satanique Samba Trio. Dit instrumentale kwintet uit Brazilië geeft met deze titel aan dat ze nog kwaadaardiger zijn dan voorheen, althans op muzikaal vlak. De tracks Badtriptronics genaamd hebben geen chronologische volgorde… ontregelen dat is waar dit ensemble goed in is. De constante in hun oeuvre zijn de kortpuntige, speelse, energieke nummers waarin je een vlaag van Braziliaanse ritmes en klanken hoort, gerukt uit hun traditionele context en vervolgens geabstraheerd. Volgens Zjakki Willems (Cucamonga Productions) is Satanique Samba Trio de ontbrekende schakel tussen Frank Zappa en Jackson de Pandeiro.

DJ Arafat Een moordend tempo - tot het allerlaatste einde 15 augustus, 2019 Op 12 augustus 2019 overleed de populaire Ivoriaanse deejay en zanger DJ Arafat in het ziekenhuis na een motorongeluk in de hoofdstad Abidjan, Ivoorkust. Arafat maakte naam in het populaire Coupé-Décalé genre en scoorde grote hits als Dosabado, Kpangor, Zoropoto, Enfant Beni en Moto, Moto" Volgens getuigen kwam hij op zondag 11 augustus met zijn motorfiets in aanraking met een auto . Hij werd vervolgens met een schedelbreuk opgenomen in een ziekenhuis in Abidjan, waar hij de volgende dag stierf. Nadat zijn overlijden bekend was gemaakt, verzamelde zich een duizendtal fans in de voorstad Cocody nabij het ziekenhuis en rouwde om zijn dood. 'Arafat kan niet sterven'.

Rainforest World Music Festival 2019 Dancing in the Malaysian jungle 12 augustus, 2019 “Catch the World Beat” was the slogan of this year's 22rd edition of the Rainforest World Music Festival, which ran from July 12 to 14 in Sarawak, the Malaysian part of the island of Borneo. With its magical rainforest setting the Rainforest World Music Festival is one of the most scenic music festivals on the globe. This year the festival was attended by 24.000 people from all over the world. The line-up featured 30 bands and over 200 performers. With workshops, jam sessions and mini concerts in the afternoon and full concerts at night there was hardly any time for rest at this colourful festival, where the Malaysian cuisine is delicious, the atmosphere friendly and the music extremely varied.

They sometimes do it by offering the stage to relatively unknown musicians, such as yesterday's Billy & Johnny with their East Extention, but also by treating the festival's visitors to outright obscurities, including an eighty-plus year old Cambodian bard who survived the Khmer Rouge, as they did a few years ago. Miraculously though they seem to get away with it. Why? Because they also know how and when to please.
